Dropbox is a very popular program using to creating a backup and archiving data. Because of the ease of use and convenience, quickly get many satisfied users. Unfortunately Dropbox can synchronize only his folder in home directory. I will show you how to synchronize any directory on the drive.

Using this solution possible is for example to back up important folders without interfering with their physical location on disk.

The whole operation is very simple and is based on the creation of symbolic links to the directories you want to archive. Ln command to create a link and the -s flag to make them symbolic.

Examples of the command looks like:

ln -s /home/adrian/Desktop/ '/home/adrian/Dropbox/backup'
At the beginning of the name 'ln-s', then the path to a folder on the disk and at the end of the path to a folder in Dropbox.

It is important to note that if you create a link to a directory such as 'desktop', it will be placed as an entire folder, not just its contents.
